The University of Auckland has published their list of '40 Under 40', 40 inspiring young alumni who continue to shine in both their professional and personal lives.

Auckland Grammar School is delighted to congratulate the six Old Boys who have made the list for 2021:


Ryan Archibald '93 MNZM is New Zealand’s second most capped Black Stick (the Men's Hockey team), has represented New Zealand at three Summer Olympic Games, has a Silver Commonwealth Games medal and was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2021 for services to Hockey. Kunal Bhargava '95 is currently the Engineering Manager at Apple. Born in Oman, Kunal moved to New Zealand to come to Auckland Grammar School, which is where he met friend and business partner Fady Mishriki '95, also born in the Middle East. A fantastic story - click here to read in full.


Charles Ma '04 is the founder and CEO of Made Group Ltd. Although being in the lower streamed classes, Charles says that his Calculus teacher in Form 6 saw something in him which saw him work and study harder than anyone else. Charles' story is truly inspiring and you can read it in full here.


Dr Alex Ng '93 is the Deputy Director of China Program, Head of Health, Innovation and Partnerships for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Graduating with a Bachelor of Human Biology, Alex's next step was to Harvard Medical School to complete a a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management, which is where his journey with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation really started - read more here.


Dr Avinash Sharma '95 is an oncology surgeon and global health researcher. Born in Fiji, Avinash got to see first-hand what it was like for those living in circumstances less fortunate than himself. And despite him entering the medical profession, the one subject he didn't take at Auckland Grammar? Biology! Read more here.


Carl van Roon '95 is the founder and head coach of Van Roon Martial Arts. He is an 11-times martial arts world champion in taekwon-do and karate and a former captain of the WAKO Kickboxing NZ national team. He has also worked as a stuntman in multiple high profile film productions, after starting his martial arts training at just 10 years old! Click here to read Carl's story.
